Kara Tointon, who plays Dawn in EastEnders, travelled from Albert Square to Zambia, a country in southern Africa, to meet children who are being helped by Christian Aid partners.

'I learnt so much and saw how just a little money can change a person's life,' says Kara. HIV is a very serious illness. In Zambia one in six adults have HIV and more than 600,000 children have lost both their parents to the illness. With no one to care for them, many orphans lose their homes and get separated from their brothers and sisters.
Christian Aid's partners help these families stay together. They run activities for children to help them get over their loss, keep younger orphans and their older carers in school, and lend money to families so they can set up new businesses to support themselves.
Kara visited a children's club run by an organisation called ADL. 'Going to the Kids' Club and seeing children who have lost one or both parents to HIV could have been depressing, but it was anything but,' she says.

'Singing and dancing are such important parts of their life. Kids who have lost parents to HIV seem to want to help other youngsters through it. This is what the UK needs to do!'
