Twelve year old Abdul and Aminata are twins, although Aminata was born before Abdul. They live with their mum and dad in Sierra Leone’s capital, Freetown.

Their parents hid in the bush during the war to escape the rebels, but Aminata and Abdul are too young to remember this.

Abdul was able to hear when he was born, but became deaf through illness when he was about five. Sierra Leone has its own sign language which both Aminata and Abdul can speak.

They’re both keen activists as they think it’s important to stand up for what you believe in.
