Martha lives with her mum and dad and six older brothers! She also has a dog called Sam (who thinks she’s brilliant). She lives in a village in Kenya near the seaside. 

Her family are farmers and grow pigeon peas and maize (maize is like a massive corn on the cob that you grind to make flour), but her mum has to work on other peoples farms too to make money to buy the extra food they need.

Martha goes to primary school, but she worries that she won’t be able to go to secondary school because it will be too expensive to buy the things she needs like a uniform and school books. If Martha was in charge of the universe for a day, she would make sure that every child was able to finish secondary school.
