Big shout to Bluecoats School!
Pupils from Bluecoats School in Gloucestershire sent in really thought-provoking letters. Here are a few:
Josephine, 11, says
'Poverty is like a hole sucking people in and soon we all will be sucked in if we don't help each other!! Poverty, have you ever thought about it? Every time you go to the shop and buy a piece of fruit you will buy it for 40p the person who grows that fruit will get 3p. That's NOT fair!!But if you buy a fairtrade banana you could change someone's life forever!! I want to do something,do you?!'
Lois, 10, says:
'I think IT'S NOT FAIR how many people, in not so wealthy countries as us, have to walk for miles on end just to get water, that may not even be clean! Just think. How would you like it? I strongly believe that we should change it. So help them!'
Dan, 11, says
'There are thousands of people all over the world with different skin colours. No one can deny racism is a world wide problem. Nobody can choose the colour of their skin when they're born. Personally I feel racism is outragous and has to stop. It's what is on the inside that counts and we should all treat each other equally.'
Bethany, 11, says
'I think it's shocking that people around the world don't have homes and have to live in horrendous conditions on the street, while we're at home watching the TV. Some people are suffering on the roads begging for money to feed their whole family. Children should be given food, water and a comfy place to sleep. So if you see someone on the streets begging, just give a little bit of money, it doesn't have to be much, just a small amount can help. It could change someone's life forever.'
Safia, 10, says
'It is astonishing and shocking that people are dying just because they do not have enough water. People walk for miles to get water. This is a serious problem. Some of the water is not even clean and it's getting worse. Some people take so long because of walking they will die. I firmly believe that we should pay at least some money to Christian Aid or Oxfam and pay for clean water whilst we can just go to the tap. You can not deny that you shouldn't be taking action on this. You could change millions of peoples lives forever. I would be ecstatic if you could help someone.'
Tom, 11, says
'It's shocking that certain people are being bullied just because of their culture or religion. I firmly beleve that every one on Earth should be treated the same it no matter what if their different or not. Why should they be treated differently if their skin colour isn't the same as others? Your skin colour is one thing you can't change, it's not your fault if you're different.'
