Is a lot of crime in your area? Have you ever been a victim of street crime? What kinds of things might stop young people joining gangs?
We caught up with Sitarah, 12, at a Christian Aid event in south London, where 200 young people got together to share their thoughts and prayers about knife crime in the city.
Like many young people in the UK, Sitarah is worried about the violence she hears about in the news and on the streets near where she lives. 'Loads of young people are dying because of simple things,' she says.
Sitarah thinks the root cause is: 'Poverty – because people need to get somewhere, (to be respected) and they think violence is the only way to get to that place.' The group watched a video about how Caja Ludica Arts Club helps young people in Guatemala City stay out of gangs. Sitarah and her friends then made their own pictures to show how art can be more powerful than fighting.
Sitarah has lots of ideas for how young people can stay out of trouble. 'I think we need more community activities outside of school like basketball and football, fashion design, making things,' she says. 'There is a street dancing club that has just opened near me which I am going to go to.'
'People I hang out with like those things and it stops you going into a gang to be cool, because sport and things like that are cool as well.'
Many cities across the world have gangs – not just London. Find out about gangs in Guatemala City and how a Christian Aid partner there is helping turn children's lives around.
