Why's Easter important?
Easter is the most important time of the year for Christians. At Easter they celebrate Jesus Christ rising from the dead. Christians believe this amazing event happened three days after Jesus was killed – he was nailed to a cross. This was his punishment for being what the Romans thought was a trouble-maker, and for saying that he was the Son of God, which the Jews found very offensive.
Countdown!
The 40 days before Easter are called Lent. This is when many Christians give up treats like chocolate. The week before Easter is called Holy Week, which begins with Palm Sunday. On this day Jesus rode into Jerusalem on a donkey and was greeted by people waving palm leaves to celebrate. He died on the cross on Good Friday. Hot cross buns remind Christians of this.

Easter eggs are given as a symbol of new life. This is what Easter is all about to Christians. Jesus was given new life, when he rose from the dead, and Christians believe they can start a new life too, because Jesus has forgiven them for mistakes they've made in the past. So it’s a time for celebration!
