Did you know?

An iguana can stay under water for 28 minutes!

70 per cent of the world is covered in water.

70 per cent of your body is made of water too!

Drinking 6 to 8 glasses of clean water every day is one way to keep healthy.

85 out of every 100 people in the world don't have running water at home.

Water means life...
We all need water to live. We need it to drink, and crops need it to grow. Water keeps the planet alive. If there was no water we would all die very quickly!

But it has problems too

Drinking dirty water makes people very ill. Around 6,000 children die every day from drinking unsafe water and not having proper toilets.

In some parts of the world crops don't grow because it doesn't rain enough. Lots of people die because they are hungry.

In some countries it doesn't often rain, but when it does it rains a lot. The rain runs away instead of soaking into the ground. When too much rain falls too quickly there are floods. Floods ruin crops and destroy buildings, and people and animals can drown.

If there's so much water in the world, why doesn't everyone have enough?
Ways to save water
You can save up to 4 litres of water by turning the tap off while you brush your teeth.

One flush of your loo uses 10 litres of water. This is as much water as a person in Africa or Asia uses in a whole day for washing, cleaning, cooking and drinking.

“If it’s yellow, let it mellow. If it’s brown, flush it down.”  Why not remember this saying next time you reach for the flush?
